PeopleVision 2006-2010

Leadership Development

Strong leadership is essential to fostering an environment in which employees feel empowered and can perform their best. The Leadership Development project is intended to provide leaders with a series of professional and personal learning events, each targeted at developing a core set of leadership competencies.

Each year, leaders from both the General Church and Academy will convene for a 2-3 day learning event. In addition, we will assess the viability of establishing a permanent program for the development of current and future leaders in each organization.

2007-2008 Leadership Development Plans

In August 2006, leaders from both organizations attended a two-day learning event, held in Cairnwood. The two-day event covered the following topics:

  • Leadership in a Family System
  • Change Management
  • Customer Focus
  • Individual and Organizational Competency

In 2007-2008, the General Church and Academy will identify external events and leadership development opportunities for leaders to attend. Each organization will work to match programs with individual leader needs.

Comprehensive Learning Assessment

Over the course of 2007-2008, we will conduct a comprehensive learning assessment to determine critical areas of learning and development across the organization (including non-leadership training needs), define an overarching leadership development philosophy, and identify tiers of leadership development, such as:

  • Fundamental Leadership Program for anyone who manages a department or function
  • Annual Leadership Development Event for all leaders
  • Advanced Leadership Development based on organizational and individual needs

In addition, we will evaluate professional development programs for individual and group development across both organizations, and design a fundamental management/supervisor training program.
